It’s time for a Team Avatar huddle: earlier this month, Avatar the Last Airbender fans came together to support the Water Protectors and completed over 350 actions to #StopLine3! On the frontlines, the work continues: Enbridge, the company building the new Line 3 through untouched wetlands and the treaty territory of Anishinaabe peoples, announced last week that they hope to start pumping tar sands from Alberta, Canada through the pipeline to Superior, Wisconsin by October 15th. That means we have one month to stop them.

When the Day of Black Sun came to the Fire Nation, Avatar Aang marshalled support from many different communities who fought the Fire Lord in their own, unique ways. So just like the Aang and the gang, we’re bringing you a bunch of ways to stop the Day of Black Oil.

Aang, Katara, Sokka, their father, and Toph, ready to fight on the Day of Black Sun.

Action 1: Call the White House

When you call 202–456–1111, you’ll be given the option to hold and speak to a comment line operator, or press 1 to leave a message. Both actions matter, so do what works for you. Speak concisely and from the heart about why stopping line 3 is so important. If you’re unsure what to say, try something like this:

I am calling on President Biden to be a true climate leader and revoke Enbridge’s permit to build and operate the Line 3 tar sands pipeline, just as he did with the Keystone pipeline earlier this year. Building Back Better means investing in clean, renewable energy, not dirty, outdated pipelines.

Action 2: Wear it On Your Chest

Right now, we’re raising money for Honor the Earth and Fandom Forward with the sale of our limited edition Protect the Water pin. We have fewer than 50 pins left, and once they’re gone, they’re gone forever! Featuring Katara as The Painted Lady (our fave cartoon Water Protector), this pin supports the real life Water Protectors and gives you the perfect piece to wear to your next protest.

Action 3: Speaking of Protest

From October 11–15, Water Protectors and supporters will gather in Washington, D.C. to call on Biden to Build Back Fossil Free and stop line 3. You can join the movement and learn about taking non-violent direct action here.

Next week, we’ll share more Stop Line 3 updates and actions you can take to get your money out of fossil fuels. Until then: call, donate, plan and help bring balance to the world!
