This Week in Wizard Activism: LeakyCon Edition!

Happy Sunday, everyone! We hope everyone is resting up to have an absolutely magical week. We’ve got quite a bit to cover, so let’s get right into This Week in Wizard Activism!
Sunday…Run day?
As of this writing, there are only FOUR DAYS LEFT to sign up for our House Cup Marathon, a virtual race through Edinburgh, Scotland!! If you haven’t registered yet, it closes August 16th, so go now! You’ll receive encouragement along the way in the form of beautiful postcards highlighting the history of the city where the Harry Potter books were written, not to mention our House Cup Champion medal, and t-shirts!
If you’re not interested in running, walking, or rolling in the race itself, you can still sign up to be an HPA cheerleader and help the racers by raising funds for the HPA’s fall campaign, a special edition of #NevilleFightsBack devoted to immigrant rights! Need a bit of help with peer-to-peer fundraising? We’ve got a toolkit for that! Alternatively, you can also contribute simply by donating! Every bit helps us make more magic this Fall!
GLA is BAE
Have you heard the good news? GLA tickets are now on sale! It’s our fifth GLA anniversary and we’re celebrating in one of the most richly historical cities, Philadelphia. We had such a blast at LeakyCon this weekend! Did you get to check out some HPA Fam on panels like Critical Fandom: How to Critique a Franchise You Love (link), Positive Fandom: Creating a Community without Gatekeeping (link), and Civil Rights and Segregation in Harry Potter (link). How about our pals like Black Girls Create, Mischief Management, Transfiguring Adoption, Hogwarts Running Club, and more? Research
Want to know more about the world, but not sure where to start? Want to find specific information about topics like gender or the environment? Look no further with help from our wonderful research team! From our LGBTQ+ side, many companies are joining a new campaign, Open to All. This initiative is a new way for companies to show that they don’t discriminate and they can show their pride with a window sticker of Yelp feature. Now in Library news, Facebook launched a “Digital Literacy Library” with the hopes of educating individuals on how to navigate the internet safely. Finally, from Environment, old mining techniques are being used in a new way to help recycle lithium batteries!
