Welcome our new Campaigns Director!
Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to our new Campaigns Director: Sara Mortensen!
If Sara seems familiar, that makes sense: Sara has been a volunteer with Fandom Forward for seven years! Sara has worked closely with Fandom Forward Senior and Volunteer Staff to help shape some of our most beloved campaigns like Accio Books, A World Without Hermione, Neville Fights Back, and more!
Originally from San Diego, CA, Sara is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Barcelona, Spain in the field of International Studies in Media, Power & Difference. Her degree is partly inspired by the work she’s done with heroes like you through Fandom Forward, looking at how stories and movements shape and protect democracy.
This summer, you’ll hear a lot from Sara about Accio Books presents: Book Defenders (our new summer reading campaign!), the reopening of our Book Club, and much more. But before then, she’s sent along a note just to say hello:
Hi everyone! I am so incredibly excited to be in this new role with Fandom Forward!! I have been a volunteer with this organization for the past seven years because I deeply believe in fan activism and have seen first-hand how much good our campaigns have done in the world. I have written before about how much Fandom Forward means to me, personally, from helping me become an activist in the first place to being the community where I found my best friends. I’m just so thrilled to have a more active role in developing our campaigns, training new activists, reading some rad books with our Apparating Library Book Club, and getting to know all of you!
We’re so thrilled to have Sara bringing her imagination, organization, and passion to a new level at Fandom Forward! We’re also excited for the summer. In the weeks to come, we’ll be growing again: we’ll be hiring soon for a Community Manager, who will be working with us to launch the next GLA and bring our coalition of fan organizers to the next level. Plus we’ll have some exciting announcements about chapters, merch, and piratical PRIDE events.
So welcome, Sara! And welcome, everyone to a summer of action, community, and hope. We can’t wait to make it magical with you!
